Disability
Disability Insurance is designed to compensate a percentage of an employee's income while he or she is not able to work due to a disability. There are two types of disability insurance. The first type is Short Term Disability. Short Term Disability is meant to pay employees who are only off for a short period of time. The normal duration is usually between 13 and 26 weeks. The second type is Long Term Disability, which pays after an extended wait period. Long Term Disability Insurance is meant for an employee who will be disabled for a long period of time and normally starts to pay when an individual's short term disability plan ends.
